How to play golf faster
without rushing
(you or your fellow golfers)
| A
round of golf should not become a foot race. Every
player is entitled to a reasonable amount of time to prepare for the
next shot. Some people naturally move slower than others and nothing you
can say will enable them to move faster. However, players can become as efficient as possible and show some consideration to
the players they are playing with as well as the groups behind them.

Basic suggestions
 | KEEP UP with the foursome ahead of you.
 | Always be ready to hit. (Play “ready golf”
whenever possible)
 | Proceed directly to your own ball. (Without
endangering yourself)
 | Plan your shot and select your club while approaching
your ball.
 | Take one practice swing and get set while others are
hitting. (Don’t be a Sergio)
 | When in doubt, hit a provisional.
 | Give instruction on the driving range, not the golf
course.
 | Hit your shot as soon as the group ahead is
realistically out of range.
 | Carry an extra ball, tees, divot tool and ball marker
in your pocket.
 | LOST BALL: 5 minutes per group, per hole, MAXIMUM TIME
(except competitions)
 | Keep pace with the foursome ahead by taking no more
than 8 minutes between nines.
 | If the course is busy,
don't wave players
through.
 | If the course is quiet, let faster players through.
(Also groups of two or less)
 | Mark errant shots by lining them up between a landmark
and the location of the original shot. (Notable tree in the area, shade
of the tree, trap, tower, yardage mark, etc…)
On The Tee
 | The first player ready to hit should do so. |
 | Shorter hitters should hit first when appropriate.
 | Other players should wait right next to the tee
markers.
 | After you hit, get your clubs and be ready to proceed
to where ball was hit.
On The Green
 | Park your cart/clubs behind the rear of the green in
line with the next tee.
 | Line up your putt before it is your turn. (Without
bothering the person putting)
 | Continue putting until holed out. (Unless restricted
by another line.)
 | Have all your equipment and flag in hand before the
last players have putted out.
 | Keep conversation to a minimum on the green. (Except
when being jocular)
 | Never record your scores on or near the green; record
scores at the next tee box. |
Using a
Cart
 | The golfer in the cart with the ball closest should be
dropped off with all possible clubs to hit the shot. After hitting the
shot, this golfer should walk to their ball, not to the cart. The
golfer with the cart should hit their shot and then pick up the other
golfer that was walking to their ball.
 | If you are last in the foursome to hit a tee shot, get
in the cart with your club and put your club away (with club cover) when
the cart stops. (Don’t loose your head cover)
 | When approaching the green with both players in the
cart, let the player with the ball farthest from the pin out (near his
ball) with all needed clubs. Then go park the cart between the green and
the next tee box.

Adhering to these suggestions can shave from 30 to 60
minutes off of an
otherwise slow round of golf without making you feel
like you're being rushed.
